So what is Alternative Giving?

 In the most basic of definitions, it is moving past the materialism of the holiday season and giving a gift that truly matters.

 Alternative Giving isn’t just about making donations to charitable causes in lieu of a present, although that’s one solution. Alternative Giving is about a thoughtful and caring approach to a gift and giving something of yourself that you can’t find in any store.

Love really IS the greatest gift and if you’re like me, year after year it often gets difficult to come up with new and inventive ideas that prove the old adage, ‘it’s the thought that counts.’ When you have friends you’ve known for 20 years and family you’ve known your whole life, I sometimes find myself thinking, ‘I haven’t given them slippers in 3 or 4 years,’  or ‘I’m sure that camera I gave them in 1986 could use an upgrade.’ And when trying to come up with gifts for an entire family, kids ages 2, 4, 7 and 9?..…. I find myself wondering, ‘Is William still into Spiderman? Which Bratz doll does Rachel have? Has Abby grown since last year? ……Well, enough already! … Alternative Giving is a simple solution to the yearly hassle of what to get. I think Flakey is a wonderful book to give to the entire family.
